Monday Sept 28th

Today was a lazy day. We went up to Spring Creek Reservoir and fished out there for a few hours. Curtis went out in the float tube, while I stayed on shore. I hate to say it – but I caught manhood again today! Two fish to his one – and my first one was a really good sized rainbow – just bigger than his – manhood achieved!
We took Leon with us and left the girls at the cabin. Don’t you know that just ticked BooBoo off in a big way. Leon was great. Stayed right by my side the entire time. Helped me when I landed my big fish. He was very curious about it until it started flip flopping all over the place – he had enough at that point and went back to taking a nap.
The wind started picking up out on the lake so Curtis came in and bait fished with me for a short while. Then we both decided we were just exhausted and decided to come back to the cabin. We got back in, had a little lunch – then slept until 6pm!!! We decided that we’ve been going non-stop since getting here and I guess it just finally caught up with us. Tomorrow we are staying at the cabin and fishing our back yard and getting caught up on some rest. We’ve had so much fun – and there has been so much to see and do. The only thing we have yet to do that we may do tomorrow evening is fishing the “Hog Trough” on the upper Taylor River. Thusly named because it produces HUGE rainbow and browns. We stopped by there last night only because there were only two guys down there fishing. That is the least amount of people we’ve EVER seen down there. Generally the place is lined up on the bank with fly fisherman trying to get that elusive big rainbow. When we stopped we naturally got out our fly gear. We fished for only about 20 minutes. The fish were HUGE. Literally right in front of Curtis was a big brown that was about 24” long. They were jumping and feeding all over the place. Of course, we didn’t have our vests on so we were sort of stuck with the flies we had on – and naturally that is not what they were eating. So we do plan to go down there either tomorrow or the next day. We want to get down there before Friday when a new wave of weekend people come in and it’s too packed again.
Curtis is fun to watch when we are on these trips. As we all know – I am a snob and don’t talk much to people. Curtis is his typical Curtis self and talks to EVERYONE. LOL – its fun thought because he learns a lot about people, what they are doing, where they are going, etc. Today he met a couple of guys that are camping about a mile from Spring Creek Reservoir with a big canvas tent set-up. They are here for Elk season which opens on the 10th. They come out this far in advance to scout out the places where they are going to hunt. The have a 4-wheel drive truck, a 4 wheeler, two horses and are set for the hunt. Gotta wonder what these guys do for a living that they can take that amount of time off from work, yet alone have all the toys they have.
Best quote of the day was from yesterdays fishing trip to Mirror Lake. As I’m sitting there with nine fish in my possession, I over hear one fisherman talking to another asking if he had any luck. The one that just finished fishing said “No – there’s no friggin’ fish in this lake – I’ve never caught a single thing here” – the other guy say’s “Yeah, same here”. I so badly wanted to hold up my stringer and say “Hey – you guys suck! Quit fishing because you don’t know what you’re doing!”. But I didn’t – I just sat there with a smug look on my face. Nope – no fish in that lake!
